Around the World is a personal travel journal by Alisha and Ueli. We keep data collection deliberately limited.
Website analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand general website use, such as which pages are visited and the broad type of device used. Analytics is disabled until you select “Accept” in the preference notice. If you decline, no Google Analytics script is loaded.
Your choice is stored in your browser so we can remember it on later visits. You can reset that choice at any time by clearing this site’s local storage in your browser.
If you contact us by email, your message and address are handled through our email provider so that we can reply. We do not publish your email address or use it for a newsletter without a separate sign-up.
Newsletter waiting list
If you join the newsletter waiting list, we store your email address, consent version and sign-up time in Cloudflare D1. We do not store your name or IP address in the waiting-list database. Your address remains pending until a future newsletter asks you to confirm it, and you can ask us to remove it at any time.
The sign-up form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to prevent automated submissions. Turnstile processes technical browser and request information for that verification under Cloudflare’s own privacy terms.
External services
Links to YouTube, Tripadvisor and other external websites take you to services with their own privacy practices. The site does not load those services merely because you open one of our pages.
The Track us page and individual travel stories offer optional interactive Google Maps. Google Maps is loaded only after you select the relevant map button; doing so connects your browser to Google and Google may process technical request and device information under its own privacy terms. The written stories and itinerary remain available without loading Google Maps.
The Track us page also offers the original journey as an optional Polarsteps map. Polarsteps and its mapping provider Mapbox are loaded only after you select “Open Polarsteps map”; doing so connects your browser to those services, which may process technical request and device information under their own privacy terms.
